Snorkel direction question
Recently installed a snorkel its a cheap one the basic typical one that goes through the hood wit the forward facing intake up top my question is while its raining and ur driving would rain be goin into ur snorkel cause of the way its facing? Or even if water splashes up and ur goin fast enough forward waters gonna go right in there i ordered a prefilter for it which i think will solve the problem but for the time being i think im gonna make the head face backwards does it matter? Any other suggestions ? Should i even b concerned about this at all?
I think everyone who install this type of snorkel has the same concerns @ first. I know I did. When I first got mine it happened to rain for a whole week. I was convinced that water would get in and kill the motor. I even put a plastic bag over it at night when it was raining. Finally I decided to test the waters and drove it facing forward on the hwy during a huge rainstorm.when I got home( after the rain) I checked and the air filter was completely dry. Like others I decided that during heavy Pittsburgh snow I would turn the snorkel to face that back. Have not had a single drop inside .

The AEV Ram air snorkel is designed to drain excess water. I have had no issues in rain or snow storms with my Ram air snorkel facing forward.

The only time I turned my ram air snorkel was when I was in extremely dusty roads and at that point I even used an old pair of panty hose as a Pre-filter to help filter out the finer dust particles.

I haven't had a problem with mine facing forward in the rain or snow.
But... I've always wondered why?
I understand the ram air effect when driving ... but when I'm parked and there is a massive rain storm, why is my airbox not full of water and the Jeep just starts up and drives away a-okay?

You'll find on some supercharged applications they will actually have a water injection kit to mix atomized water/mist to help cool the intake charge. Likely the water that enters through a snorkel is combined with xxCubic feet of air and is no different then driving during HIGH humidity.
