Default Snow Issue

We got a dusting of snow last night, no more than a half inch stuck. Took my JK out form the first time in the white stuff since moving to NJ from SC where it doesn't snow, and she slid around worse than old rear wheel drive caddy!!! Even in 4H she was far from stable around even the slightest bend and stopping was quite an adventure.

Its not like I've never driven in snow either I grew up in the Noertheast and even lived in Maine for one of their snowiest winters ever and never had any issues w/ my Pathfinder I drove at the time.

Please tell me their is something I can do....what is the best snow tire in the MT family?? I know Duratracs are good but they don't make a 37 which I currently run. Any other good options cause I'm not dealing with what I went through this morning, Ill sell her if this is just a trait of the JK.

I dont think its a trait of a JK as much as it is a trait of MT tires. Most if not all of them lack siping which is key for snow/ice traction. The duratracs have it which is why they are so highly rated for winter weather. Im not sure what other options are out there for tires, but maybe you could run a smaller duratrac in the winter and go back to your 37s for the other 9 months of the year?

Just throwing this out are you sure your transfer case is engaging ? I live in Texas and dont see a lot of snow but what little we do get I can get around pretty easy.

You may want to turn off your T.C. also.

What tires are you running now? I had no issue in the snow this morning with mtr's in 2wd.

Transfer case is engaged.

I'm running KM2's currently which have about 25k on them.

I could not believe how much I was sliding around...heck my old 2 door YJ on 36in swampers didn't have this much trouble.

Sounds like it's time to upgrade for a heavy rear bumper with a tire carrier for extra weight!

Im runnin 33" km2's on my 2dr here in colorado. I have to say they do pretty damn good, espcially in 4wd. They do fine in 2wd too but if u turn off the tc ur not goin anywhere. Maybe the bigger tire with the bigger footprint doesnt cut through the snow as well. Oh and i never have my back seat in either so theres no weight back there.

Even with my stock JKU with stock tires, never had any issues. Hard packed snow, slush, ice-pack or 2 feet of fresh powder.
I have a auto with the LSD, even running 2WD I was fine...4HI for the deep powder.

I would say tires, and most important, drive lightly on the gas and break...easy does it on both will keep you straight, and get you home everytime.
