Default So i spun a rivnut

By one have any suggestions on how to fix this? I cranked down on the rivnuts while putting them in to make sure they were tight but one still spin on me when the bolt got in a bind. I'm installing the metalcloak rocker exo skin. Thanks

I you'll have to cut the bolt off and you'll loose the nutsert down inside the rocker. When you put the new nutsert in put a dab of jb weld on the nut sert

As much as I'm going to be happy when I'm done, this project sucks. I hate rivnuts. I had another one spin out but was able to crush the change with a screwdriver and hammer until I could push it thru the hole.

Careful on this one. The nutsert is crushed already and will not come out without cutting it out. Then you'll have to weld in a sheet metal patch.

Here's what I would do. Loosen all the bolts or remove. Then get behind the armor and hold the nutsert so you can remove the bolt. If there is no way you can get the bolt out, then cut just the head off so you can remove the armor (that way you have something to grab on the bolt to turn it.

Once you get the bolt out, determine if the nutsert threads are ok. If so, you can crush it down more (but don't deform the threads!). If that isn't an option, then you need to spot weld it in place so it won't spin.

Again, removing the nutsert is plan Z. If you can't weld sheet metal or have a friend that can, you're probably better off leaving the nutsert in and not putting a bolt in that one.

This is all too familiar. Same thing happened to me with my orfab rocker guards. I lucked out though and used an electric drill with a socket on the end and was able to spin the bolt fast enough that I got it in. In other words I spun the nut faster then the nutsert was spinning.

Thanks. I'll give this a shot in the morning and follow up with success or some horror story of how I tried to patch my 15 JKUR.

I'll probably give that a shot in the morning to see if it will come out that way.

Screw those nutserts it just made my stomach sick reading this thread reminded me of when jk US Marine called me to bring my welder over when he ran into the same issues putting on his xrc fenders I almost cried when I saw all the holes in his sheet metal then again when we attempted to spot weld them in place I will never ever ever put those on my baby just for that reason or I would have my local shop do it so I don't see all the filthy horrible things that they did to her

Not sure how far you are from me in Maryland but I have the Marson nutsert tool. If you can possibly get the bolts out, we can crush the nutsert to the correct depth.
