sound from diff after regearing

Default sound from diff after regearing

hi guys, i get this small humming sound from my diff, its been 3000+miles since i regeared. its a very low sound the pitch increases as i accelarate and decreases when i slow down, is this normal?

I would have to say no. A small sound IMEDIATLEY after regearing as everything wears into place maybe, but 3000+ miles later no. I would take it back to whoever did your gears and have them check it out. Sounds like your gears arent shimmed properly and may e out of alignment.

i havent changed the diff oil yet, so i guess i open the covers and see whats going on inside, oh yah i forgot to mention that the sound is only noticeble with the hardtop off.. if that helps in any way

Look at this h t t p://www2.dana.com/pdf/5717.pdf and print it so you can compare the pattern on your gears.
There is a lot of attention to detail and trial and error when setting up a gear set.
Do a Google search for ring and pinion tooth contact chart. You will get examples of other charts.
