Default spacer install throws off alignment?

I'm planning on putting in 3/4 inch spacers in the front to compensate for the drop from the weight of my new bumper and winch. I was told by another JK owner that installing the spacers can throw off my alignment.

Considering that I had an alignment done this morning, and would rather not screw it up a day after getting it done - will installing the spacers throw off my alignment, and if so, is it something that I can take care of myself by using WOL's project JK alignment write up?

Thanks for the help.

JD

I don't see how 3/4" spacers would throw off your alignment although you may have to recenter your steering wheel. It takes a 15mm wrench and about 5 minutes.

I don't see why?? You may have been off to begin with. All you are doing with a WS is taking the same plane the wheels are already on and extending it out some. Now if the sapcer is not completly flat on both sides that might throw you off some? Other than that I don't see it. JOE>

Thanks for the replies guys. I didn't really see how it would throw the alignment out of whack either, but decided to ask just in case.

I was thinking the same thing about the steering wheel Robar. It didn't shift after I put my lift on, so hopefully it won't this time. If it does however, I'll use WOL's write up, and the centering function on my AEV Pro-Cal.

Thanks again for the info.

I installed 3/4" coil spacers in the front and didn't even have to re-center my steering wheel. No alignment problems. 3/4" doesn't change much.

You should give the JK owner who told you about the alignment problem the web address to this forum. Maybe he'll learn something.

I put in a 1.75" spacer (but removed the stock one) and had absolutely no change in my alignment!

I also have the Spidertrax spacers on with no issues, been running then for 20,000 + miles too. JOE>

I think the OP was talking about coil spacers, but wheel spacers shouldn't have an effect on alignment either. It widens your track, but that's about it.

I guess in the strictest of terms you are making some changes, but extremely minor ones.

Your caster will decrease by a fraction and and your sterring wheel will need to be recentered. But saying it will screw it up is a bit of a stretch

I have a 3/4" plus a 1/2" on mine for a total of 1.25" and no problems.
