Default Spacers vs New wheels

I am gonna go with either 295/70/R17 Swamper M16s or 305/70/R17 Maxxis Bighorns.

I cant decide if I should do spacers or buy new wheels

Opinions?

Many have great success with the spacers. My personal preference is new wheels, however.

first dude, pick the size first. do you want 33's or 35's.

get new wheels unless you cant afford it.

they look better, they're wider, and most likely lighter and stronger than stock wheels - but i have yet to find load capacities for the stock wheels - so i guess i'm just pulling that crap outta my A**

regardless of capacity, the new wheels will look much better than stock, especially with 35's

The big reason people use spacers is:

A: The wheels they have will not clear the larger tires, and they like the wheels they have.

B: The wheels they want will not clear the larger tires...

Either way, it is the same basic reason....

If you go with new wheels, go down to 15" or 16" rims; this will save you money on tires. But, be aware that with 15" rims only certain designs will clear your calipers.

its my understanding that 295s are 33.4 and 305s are 34.0

Talking

The 17" wheel you have will fit those tires if you wanted to leave them.

The issue for spacers is the WIDTH of the tires, as they can rub on inboard compoents in the wheel wells.

The SAME issue exists for BACKSPACING of the new rims...BOTH are to move the tire outboard, to clear the inboard components.

The stock rims have 6.25" of BS....a 1.5" Spacer reduces that to 4.75"....so a new rim with 4.75" of BS is the same as a 1.5" Spacer on the stock rim.

If you can afford new rims/prefer a new look....get new rims.

If you CAN'T afford new rims/don't like the look of the cheap ones as much as the one's you have, etc...then get the spacers.

The option of getting 16" rims will save you some money on rubber in the long run, as mentioned....something a spacer will not help you on.

1. Do you like the rims you have?

2. Is there a rim you want instead?

3. Is $50/wheel OK, but more than that not OK?

4. Can you afford 17" tires vs 16" tires?

1. Right now, stock rubis, they are ok.

2. Not really, if I got something it would be a black outlaw style w/ maybe the fake beadlocks

3. i could probably do 50 a wheel but havent found any that cheap

4. Afford is such a relative term, I cant afford anything but I can spend it.

I havent priced the difference....

Thanks for everyones input so far....

You forgot the main reason.....$$$$$$$
Wheel spacers...2 pair $200
New wheels $500+ (if you get 5)

Me personally, I spent the extra $300(not on my current wheels) or so and got new wheels with better backspacing.
