In my opinion a 35" tire is too much weight to hang on the rear tailgate.

Are the rear bumpers that are coming out, such as the new AEV bumper going to accomodate some the weight?

Quite a few people are running with 35s on their tailgate, so is your opinion based on any specific knowledge (I know it would be an issue on TJs)? I'm thinking about putting a 35 on the tailgate which is why I ask.

I have a 35" on my stock carrier, no spacer. It doesn't make any noises or rattle. I've had it on for about a month now. I want a rear bumper too, but they are very pricey.

My opinion is based on a couple things:
1. I have been in the car buisness for 15years(collision repair). The rear gate, hinges and pot metal carrier do not seem sufficient to hold that much weight.
2. I had mine on for a short time and my gate WAS beginning to sag.
Also I think I read somewhere about a weight limit in the owners manual (50 lbs). I don't have my JK with me to check. If someone could do a fact chek on that it might help.
As I stated this in my opinion. I know alot of jk's are having no issues.
