Default Spare tire carrier/tire size

We will be getting 35" tires here in the very near future. Will the stock spare tire carrier/bumper hold this size tire, or will we have to upgrade the bumper and tire carrier to something that will fit it? Thanks for any input.

If you are using a factory wheel, you may have to trim the rubber bumpers on the tailgate. My 315/70/R17 Hankook MT03 was a TIGHT fit...(see pic below) Depending on the shape and actual height of the tire, your experience may differ. Plus I have an aftermarket bumper with a little more room. If you are using an aftermarket wheel, it should fit, but it may hit the rear bumper, and you may need extensions on the rubber nubs.

As far as wheeling/driving and durability, my 07 had no problem on the stock carrier with a heavy steel wheel and 35" tire combo for 2 years. The key thing is to make sure the tire is against the bumpstops. My stock 17" and 35" tire combo on now only weighs about 20lbs more than the 32" tire, so I don't expect it to fail.

Ya, I agree with the "make sure it is resting on the bump stops" comment. I have heard people saying it stresses the hinges a bit and some have bent the swing gate from the stress.

I ran my 35's on the stock carrier without any issues. I would take it off and place it in the back of the jeep when going offroad. The hard bumps are definately not good for the carrier and the extra weight.

I like that idea. I feel pretty blonde sometimes.
