Default Sparetire mounted rack - Where to find one?

We're trying to get our plans made for Moab this year. One thing we'd like to do is run the White Rim Trail. We have a 2-dr JK. With 2 adults and 2 kids, space will be a premium on an overnight trip like this. I remember seeing racks in the past that would mount to/around the spare tire on the back. They gave you a basket that would basically sit on top of the spare. It usually had roughly 6" sides on it and was probably 40" wide and about 18-20" deep. Anyone know where I might find something like this? I have a soft top so I can't really mount anything to the top. I'd rather not spend a fortune on one of the big racks that mounts front and rear.

Thanks,
David

Considering you don't want the roof rack, and I understand considering they are expensive and you will have to drill, here is a compilation of some alternative options that are right up you alley...

Check out every single one of these links! I'm sure you'll find something I gave you, useful.

P.S. with these racks I highly suggest picking up a ratchet tie down strap as well for your stuff will be bouncing around all over the place; don't use bungie cords. Ratchet tie downs are cheap, very strong, and can be found at any Autozone of Checkers.

Have Fun!

Hi there dgore2, I just purchased the tire mount bike rack and just going by how much weight there is in 2 bikes I can tell ya that you should be very careful as to how muh weight you put on that basket because the 2 bikes alone dont way that much but on the tailgate felt like they were almost double. Good luck and enjoy yourself.

I've given that some thought as well. I'm primarily wanting to use it to hold a nylon tent and small cooler. I've noticed some of these racks have supports that run to the bumper? I've also considered making one and tying it to the hitch somehow.

I have the sierra rack and I love it.
I mount my hi-lift and other things to it and can carry a small cooler and gerry can
