Question SPeedo/Odometer Calibration Question????

Dudes,

is there another way to have your speedo/odo calibrated than to buy the programmers? They seem to be more of a headache than a benefit....

Could the dealer, or a local shop re-calibrate this for me for less than the cost of a programmer?

I've always wondered the same thing. There's a dealership here that sells lifted JKs on 35s and I find it hard to believe that they sell these brand new Jeeps with the speedometer and odometer off by 10%.

Walk into your Jeep service department with a 100-dollar bill in hand and see if they comply.

I've heard they can only calibrate up to 32". I am not sure of this since I haven't tried it yet. I am still running my 32" BFG KM's. I think when I get larger tires, I'll purchase a programmer. At this point, I don't know which I'll go with.

I used a programmer....

Just use a GPS and see how much your off. Then just make a mental note on it.

It is inconvenient but the off odometer miles are in your favor. Only really a pain for checking MPG

Yup same here..
Southbay Chrysler Jeep has lifted JK's, I was always curious about the gearing on those so I asked.
Answer was no.
No gearing, no programming calibration, just an un-thought out lift just to get fancy wheels and big tires on 'em, and charge double if not triple what it would cost to do it yourself.
BTW Hypertech Power Programmer is the way to go, so easy a Caveman can do it.

Hi! When I first bought my JK I knew something was wrong with the speedometer so I had the service dept check it out. Sure enough it was way off. After a couple of hours with two Techs driving around with a laptop and a programer they recalibrated it. Not sure what they did but the speedometer checks out exactly with the GPS, stopwatch, and several tests on a measured mile. They did a great job in my opinion! Vehicle computers are "Black Magic" as far as I'm concerned. I hate them but realize that I have to live with them. This is okay as long as the service tech's know what they're doing! Take care... Mike

Burnsville offroad is capable of doing it, so I'm guessing that someone with Starscan, who knows how to use it can do it.

You can get the full programer or a limited unit like the AccuPro. I have the AccuPro and it adjusts the ECM for tire size and gear ratio. My speedo is reading correctly now and tranmsission shift points are normal.

my dealership told me that they can only reprogram to manufacturer specs. so no bigger than 32" tires or, i think, 4.10 gears....
