Default spring compressor substitute

I'm going to install a FT 3" lift soon, and the write up says the coils could be kinda tought to get in, and a spring compressor might come in handy. I can't see myself buying a spring compressor for this though... so I'm thinking about using those ratcheting straps if I need to clost them up a bit. Does this seem like something that could work? I don't think I'm really going to be compressing them enough for it to become dangerous.

Actually while I was typing this I quickly googled it and found this:

seems like it might work, maybe use one on either side.

I did my 2.5 without a spring compressor and I had no problem. I dont think you will need one. I also had some one pulling down on the alxe's. The front will be fine but the rear maybe alittle rough.

Find an Auto parts store with a loan a tool program. They charge the full amount and when you return the tool they refund the full amount.

you dont have to buy them go to autozone tell them you want to rent some. they sill charge you the full 40 and then when you bring them back give you 30 or so back

the ratchet straps are just going to make your straight spring look like a C
x2 on that. they are cheap and most auto parts stores have a tool rental program. they arent really necessary, but are helpful

Yeah, probably something I should look into. I never really thought about how I was going to take the tension off of the ratchet... probably wouldn't be gentle... Don't have an autozone around here unfortunatly, but i'll call some of the auto places we do have.

You shouldn't need the spring compressor, unbolt the track bar at the axle and disconnect the swaybar endlinks. The springs will fall out.

i never had a problem with taking the springs out, i have done two lifts and replaced the front coils on my JK after the stock springs just collapsed. while the compressor wasnt necessary, it made re-installing the springs much easier.

i live next to a pep boys, so getting the compressor was a snap. i wound up buying it just to have

x2. If you do need them just go to Autozone and get a loaner tool. $50 deposit I think, and you get it all back. I didn't need a compressor to get in my 3" tera springs. I doubt the 3" FT springs are any taller than the 3" Teraflex springs.

I just got done installing my 2.5" Teraflex coil kit. The deestruckshuns say to loosen the track bar and control arm bolts. I did neither and the old coils fell out and the new ones went right in. I suspect it will be either that easy for you or at the most you might have to loosen some bolts. If you do just remember to retorque them with the weight of the Jeep on the ground.
