I have a 3'' FT lift I did use spring compressor. I think to avoid the use of spring compressor you have to unbolt the track bar, to loosen the control arm and to unbolt the shock at the axle end. If you don't unbolt the shock, it will retain the axle to going donw enough.

You unbolt the shock at one side and with a floor jack you raise the opposite end of the axle. The OM came off easily but the FT 3'' spring were though to place in.

The easiest route is the spring compressor they are not expensive I understand you are from Canada you may not rent this tool like in the US (like in EU I had to buy a paire).

I used ratchet straps for the front when I put in my BB, just be careful when you unhook them is all. Just looped them around a few times to try and get even pressure on both sided and tightened them up. Think I would either borrow or invest in a compression tool next time but in a pinch it worked.

Harbor Freight tools sells them cheap also.

Make sure you wear safety glasses when working with any kind of spring.
