Default squeaky shocks

About a 3 weeks ago i installed the shocks that came with my rusty's 2" BB. Now the rear shocks are squeaking when i am on a rough road or basically with any movement. i torqued down the bolts and....no improvement. the squeaking is at the bottom end of the shock. how can i make it stop? wd40?

and now i remember why people told me not to go with Rusty's.....because customer service sucks! hillbilly on the phone told me "our shocks don't squeak. must be the way you installed it. torque down harder on the bolts"

You could get some shock adapters and put your old shocks back on. Teraflex makes some.

Don't WD-40. Will not be good for rubber bushings

is it safe to assume you got the basic old school hydro shocks with your lift? if so, is it safe to assume they came with polyurethane bushings? if so, it's not uncommon for them to get squeaky. really cranking down on the bolts can help... for a while anyway. as mentioned, DO NOT use wd-40 on them. if anything, something like a white lithium grease would be the better way to go.

Talking

Daystar, etc, makes a lube specially for the poly bushings.

Sometimes, they squeak because they are TOO tight btw (Or never lubed...)...if you over crank a bushing, it can bind, leading to squeaks...and a crushed bushing...

...which is why, once its crushed, cranking it MORE sometimes takes up the extra gap, and, sometimes, doesn't...depending upon how crushed the bushings were to start with.

all true. i didn't use wd-40. I ended up cranking them to about 75lbs squeak went away....well at least its not noticeable unless you are trying to hear it. If it continues i will try some white grease. thanks for all the help

What is the issue with using WD 40 on poly bushings?

shock bushings have crush sleeves specifically designed to be cranked on and if the bolts are not tightend to the appropriate torque setting, this can cause slight movement or shifting and that is what causes the squeaking. also, there is very little to no rotation in the bushings and so there is no bind. typically, you should not need to lube anything here. if you really are crushing the bushing to the point where it's causing problems, you have the wrong size crush sleeve installed.

the oil will only make the squeaking worse - a lot worse.

Ah ok. I was worried it could damage the bushing..
