Default Starting Upgrades

So I have been lurking around the forum for a month admiring everyone's sweet JKs, and finally pulled the trigger and bought my new DWB Rubicon a week ago. Very anxious to start doing some upgrades and could use some advice from you all. Need to keep it close to stock for a long daily commute, but want a more aggressive look. Was contemplating getting Mickey Thompson sidebiters and sticking with the stock tires for awhile then upgrading to 33" tires. Anyone else running a similar setup? Also planning on doing weekend offroading so want to avoid the pimped out look so want to accessorize in black. Anyone have pictures of their DWB with black accessories? Thanks in advance for any input.

Default Welcome

And congrats on the Rubi!

I have a similar set up as above, 285 75r 16 BFG KM2s on Soft 8 Pro Comp steel. Not great for long daily commute by any stretch. Research a bunch here and ask some questions. Take your time with your choice and select a set up that will be a good balance for your daily driver and weekend fun.

Thats just my $.02

Default Thanks

Appreciate the input guys. Is it normal to spend hours a day drooling over the quadratec web site when you get your first Jeep? My significant other thinks I am looking at porn then checks out the monitor and realizes I am staring at bumpers and wheels and just shakes her head.

Drive it for a few weeks and ask tons of questions. See if you can find a local JK-jeeper that has some mods so you can take a look first hand.

And buy torque head drivers if you don't have them already...

If I wanted to keep it really commuter friendly I think I'd do:

33x12.50 tire on some nice wheels
teraflex leveling kit
superchips flashpaq

I wouldn't do the wheels without the tires. You're going to probably want wheels with more backspacing which might not look great with the stock tire width. If you buy the wheels and tires together you can either sell your stock wheels/tires or keep them as backups or use them in the winter, etc. If you buy the wheels and tires together from someone like Discount Tires Direct you can get them mounted, balanced, TPMS installed shipped right to your door and just bolt them up yourself.

I really think it's the tire width that makes the stance on theses jeeps look right. I have 35" tires, but I see a lot of JKs on wide 33s that have a really nice stance.

This is just the way I'd do things. But I think it'd make a pretty good daily driver and not be too shabby in the dirt to boot.

I went with ProComp 17" wheels and will use the stock Rubi 32" Mud T/A's until they wear out. I got the necessities right away (bumpers, winch, mirrors for taking the doors off). When my next bonus comes she will get the 2.5" lift and probably 33"s.

The only mod that everyone should do--and early--is an oil pan skid/replacement.

Other than that, let your own needs and interests be your guide. And read the shit out of this forum. Eventually the true wisdom will start to sink in.
