The sector shaft brace looks like it prevents side loads on the shaft, but I don't see how it can avoid the transmission of forces that cause the splines to move on the shaft. That shaft doesn't twist, it's the splines that the pitman arm mounts to that ''twist''.....I could be very wrong, but this bracket looks like it would keep the box itself from laying over only....

Default gear box

Thanks for the pic, that gives me an understanding of how it works.

Does anyone know where to get a steering gear box, other than the dealer? Just looking for a better price. probably a long shot because the JK is only a couple years old.

Thanks,
Steve

Default Steering Box

Thanks, great find. I googled and couldn't find anything. The dealership wants over 700 dollars for a new one. Tinman080, thanks for all of your help. This forum is awesome.

FWIW. This happened yesterday, pulling out of a parking spot on asphalt with the tires (35's) aired down. Didn't notice if the splines were twisted prior to this. Guess I need a new shaft as well

Default Mine broke also...

This was mine this morning in the parking lot. I had already taken 2 trips...glad I was not driving. Running 37" Grapplers. You can not just replace the shaft? You have to get the whole box?

Ugh you have to be kidding me, ANOTHER JK problem?! It seems like everything on these is vulnerable once you add tires.

FYI - This picture shows a drop-bracket for the trackbar. If you don't use a drop-bracket, you'll need a good 3"+ bumpstop to prevent the trackbar from contacting the sector shaft bolt. I'm using a 2 3/4" bumpstop and it's too short (real-world testing by installing it and stuffing the driver's side).
