it appears that I have bent what looks like a shock and is connected to my steering. I can't turn the wheels to the right, as it's hitting a bracket. I have tried to bend it back, but does not seem to want to . question is can drive without it until I can get a new one?

 

It sounds like your steering stabilizer. You should be able to drive with out it but you might have some bump steer.

 

Thats your steering stablizer...

I'm sure the dealer can order a new one... I havent seen any out for the JK, I'll look around and see what I can find..


If your already lifted.. You might as well Upgrade to a beefier one.,

 

i was thinking that was the stabilizer. I did manage to bend it down, some fluid leaked out, but the wheels will turn.

so just so I am 100% clear, I CAN drive without it for a bit?

you should be able to ,yes. I wouldn't drive very fast for frear of the dreaded shimmy but you should be able to drive. How did you bend it?

I was driving around a construction site Sunday night and must have hit it. I really don't recall any particualr hard hit we took, but there is a small flat spot where it hit something.

That was a rare occurance being off the pavement, so I am just going to put a stock one back on it.

just clicked on your link to Qtec...thanks, I was thinking a skyjacker would be a few hundred bucks, I guess for $36, it would silly not put a beefier one on.

 

I had that same issue. Just loosen the bracket and rotate it. That should give you enough clearance until you can replace it.
