Default Steering Stabalizer smashed again, should I bother replacing?

Ok, I smashed the 2nd stock sterring stabalizer in less than 6 months. It is leaking oil and significantly bent. I have not noticed the jeep riding bad. Do I have to replace this? How important is a steering stabilizer? I would love to let it go at least until the summer is over since I am gurnateed to smash another one.

There are several companies that offer relocation brackets with steering stabilizers. Most relocate above axle.

Read the sticky... it really useful. There is a section about steering stabilizers. In short they aren't needed if your steering is well aligned, give the sticky a quick look tho.

X2 on the sticky. I would use one of the relo brackets when you do finally replace it. I have a relo bracket and it raised the shock above the tie rod so it will be really hard to hit.

If everything is in *perfect* order and it rarely is, the requirement for it is not absolute. However, even the stock geometry is not perfect so at a minimum it will control bump steer.

It is like ABS, not an absolute requirement but it sure helps in some conditions.

The steering damper has another design benefit besides keeping the front end in an overly damped state so that DW doesn't start. The DW/steering dampers thing has been beaten to death; my point is not related

But, of significant importance is the damper's role in helping to preserve the condition of all of the front end components when an impact is encountered. If you're running no damper, or a weak damper, every little impact is transmitted in full force to the other components in the front end. With a high quality appropriate damper the impact energy transfer will be lessened and spread out over a longer period of time.

The short version is that it will reduce wear and tear on the front end components.

Olean, are you putting a tire on the rock or stump or swell you're attempting to go up and over -or- are you straddling it and getting into ground clearance issues with smallish rubber?

It should be relatively difficult to destroy a stock damper on a JK, it's behind the tie rod.

I've had zero problems with my stock damper and I've run the most difficult trails in Moab save for Pritchett and Helldorado.

Here is where I blew the tire and I think killed my stabalizer. I need bigger tires.
