steering stabilizer?

Default steering stabilizer?

Hi guys, I recently upgraded to 33's nitto grapplers and Xd addicts. no lift.
This is my daily driver and I do a lot of highway driving 80% of 33,000kms/20505miles a year
I hit a lot of bumps here and there and causes the shimmy effect.
Will a steering stabilizer make that big of a difference in having a smoother ride? Should I get one?

How many miles on your shocks? I bought my JKU with 105k and still had the stock shocks and a leaky steering stabilizer. Replaced all with new rubicon red shocks and new stabilizer. Shimmy was gone.

Yes, a steering stabilizer can help mask whatever issue it is that you are feeling. Rather than just replacing, you might do a little detective work and find out what the actual problem is, though.

Stuck right to the top of the JK Writeups area is a good diagnosis thread that planman put together. Wouldn't hurt to look through it.

I have about 20,000 miles on it. So everything is still in good order.

Thanks I think really it can't be fixed because I went with larger tires. Only being helped/assisted with a steering stabilizer and maybe shocks.
I'm just curious if the steering stabilizer makes that much of a difference

I know steering stabilizers are overlooked by some. You have to make your own choice's. I upgraded my before the stock one was worn out. I feel it improved my handling. I have a 2.5 lift 35" Toyo's. I feel the same about trackbar. You decide.

Running larger tires won't mean you can't fix a problem, and to be honest 33's aren't that large. Lots of guys here are running 37's and 40's on DDs without experiencing a bump. I would check your ball joints, drag link, and tie rod ends. Even with 22k miles that stuff can go. If they were starting to wear, the 33's could have amplified the problem faster than you think. A SS is really a dampener, or shock for your steering. So it will mask what ever bump you are experiencing or what ever problem might be developing, but not solve it. So I would look at all those wear parts and see if anything needs replacing. Yes, it's low miles, but that doesn't mean those parts won't wear. Also, what PSI are you running? That could play into it.

You will find posts here from people who are running big lifts and big tires - and do not have a steering stabilizer installed.

I am not advocating that practice, just saying that if your steering is properly dialed in and your components are in good shape, you should not be feeling the shimmies that you are. It 'really can't be fixed'? Sorry, don't buy it... If you are getting shimmies, it's a pretty good bet that there is a problem somewhere. Whether or not you choose to look for it, or mask it with a super-duper heavy duty stabilizer, is up to you.

Thanks, the shimmies are not that bad. But i'm just very picky about how it drives. lol
I think everything underneathe the jeep is in good order because i just got these wheels and before with the stock wheels the jeep was driving fine.
The tire psi was high when the guy installed it so I dropped it down to around 37, i'll probably try to have them all at 35 or so and see how she drives.
