Default stock bumper mod

I'm trying to do some budget mods on my jk, and I have seen a few posts for stubby bumpers. I don't want to buy a kit, but I'm not a fan of the straight cut off with the open ends I've seen on the forum. I'm curious if any body had tried to chop the front bumper ends, and then re use the tips as a cap. Does this fit? ID like to know if anyone has had success with this before I try to chop my bumper. Any feedback is appreciated.

I did the stubby chop on my bumper. I also didn't like the open ends. Then ends can be folded over but sometimes doesn't look great and seems difficult. Guys have done it though and it looks good when done well. My solution I bought a Rubbermaid tub for some donor plastic. Chopped the ends, used some cardboard for a template, then cut it out in plastic. I then used the a soldering iron to melt the pieces together. Then a good coat of bed liner and I'm happy with it....for now!

Beauty! That's just the look I'm after! I'm on my cell so the picture kind of blows, but your saying you sprayed the whole bumper?

Not at all sir. Im not the first and didn't expect to be the last. One mans trash is another mans next mod IMO or as Red Green would say "If the women don't find ya handsome, they'll at least find ya handy"

Yea the outside of it anyway. After melting the pieces back together I ground the rough edge down with the dremel. Then sanded the bumper down to give it a key so the liner would stick. 3-4 coats if I remember right. The reason I left it as wide as I did is I wanted to use stock hardware to reattach it. I could have gone a little narrower if I wanted. Hardest PITA is getting the bumper off and back on.

Default Tips reused as caps.

I did a horrible job of trimming around my home-made winch plate but I really like how the ends turned out. Original plan was to paint or bedline so rivets weren't as noticeable but in the end i like the look.

This look is not for everyone but it gets the job done and think of the weight savings not to mention the cost savings.

Here is a link to a thread where someone used the ends.

Also, Rough Country offers ends to go on a stock stubby bumper. The link to their website is below.

I did the cut and fold back method and melted the seams back together. A good coat of plastic bumper repair epoxy on the back(inside) and it has held up great for 4 years now.

I saw your post in another thread. I actually lifted your pic and sent it to my wife. This is EXACTLY what I want to do with mine. I also appreciate that you mounted the winch hardware directly on top of the plastic for a very clean, factory look. Some of the better work i've seen. Appreciate you sharing! Will post mine when complete, just have to get out of Afghanistan first..lol.
