Street Tires
Ok, I have been dreaming of the day when my M/T's are worn out so I can get some fat 12.5's.
Now, after the never ending howling slide into a car the other day, I am much more concerned about safety by having a better street tire. The Jeep is my everyday driver on the highways inside Minneapolis so I will use them every day in bad traffic, vs 10 weekends or so a year for the off-road tires. I also have a 20 month old and am very glad she was not along for the ride.
This accident basically sold me on spending the cash on street tires and re-saving for my 12.5's. :( Kind of a bummer but I was not happy with the only options I had - keep standing on the breaks and hit the bus or the SUV. The breaks did fade around 20MPH. So they dragged me down from 60-20 OK but then they did let up a bit. The tires where still howling away though. Upgrading the brakes my very well happen on my first pad change.
I've gotta say, this was the fasted developing traffic event I have ever been involved it. When it started to go down I was expecting a car-flying-Blues-Brothers-crash-scene not a minor rear-ender. It made me miss my Fiero that would stop on a dime and fit in a mail box.
Gas millage is just a bonus with street tires. I'll take the good life gives me without compliant.
Looking at using the factory rims for off-road (they are already dinged up and have MT's on them) and getting new rims for the street tires. Seems all backwards to me but thinking about it, another event like this and the insurance rate and damage will pay the wheels and tires off.

I went with BFG all Terrains, I use them for my wheeling activities, they havent given me a problem in any area so far.. they work well on the street, dirt, rain, etc. I can definetly stop shorter with them compared to my old BFG Mud Terrain KM1's.
Maybe just switch to an A/T tire????

Like others have said you can pick up a set from a stock jk for pretty cheap or switch to a good all terrain tire. The bfg all terrain is a good tire both on the street and off road. Glad no one was hurt.
Ditto... The money spent on another set of tires and wheels certainly won't be offset by the marginal fuel mileage savings. Realize that you are driving a Jeep and back off a little more. Heck, the JK has the best brakes the factory has ever put on an open top Jeep...
I had 33 x 11.5's Yokohama Geolanders on a ranger. The price was pretty darn reasonable. Rain and snow traction was the best I've seen. Never off roaded them. Meaty tread. However there might be a remote possibility that they might not be an American tire.
