Stubby vs Full Width
Rugged Ridge is the best bargain for your request and the Superwinch fits perfect with 1 little tab adjustment. Nice and tight. great approach angle. Add Skid for the swaybar disco and it's complete.
EDIT Depends on how you're going to wheel it. IF your going to crawl rocks, you want the stubby. Just be careful in the woods that a small tree doesn't jump inside the tire at the fender.

Not much doubt that for strictly off-road performance the stubby is the way to go. I think a mid width offers a good compromise though. I do like a couple of the full width bumpers out there though, if I stay stock on the flares I would consider one of these, for a flat fender then stubby is the way to go.
Hello I'm looking for reason on the pro's/cons going with a
-Full Width winch bumper
-Stubby winch bumper
I have 4" Tera Flex Long arm lift kit 35x12.50x17r Tires.
I prefer the looks to a full width. But the cost from what I can tell about 40-60% more than a stubby winch bumper. So my question is what's the reason to go one or the other besides costs/looks? I know that the stubby allows greater angles of approach for tires so you don't hit bumper before tires start to climb. But other than that is there anything that I could be missing?
Anything that you can do to inform me on a different angle or experience that you've had with either or and regrets for going one way or another.
These are the criteria that I MUST have met though for bumper considerations.
-Holds a Super Winch EPI9 without having to cut/drill more holes
-Powder coated black
-Has two shackle points for D rings
Many thanks for you sharing your knowledge

I went through the same debate before I replaced my front bumper.
Most of the advice I received here in the midwest pointed to the full length front bumper. The main reason given was protection of the front tires and fenders. Against that advice, I decided to go with the stubby.
I bought an LoD, powder-coated, stubby. I also have the Superwinch EPi 9 installed. I have been wheeling a few times around Indiana, and I can say without reservation that I am very happy with my choice. Even with the stinger, the stubby allows great manueverability. I have managed to brush some trees with the front corners of the fenders; but, I would have been in more trouble with the full length bumper.
(If you order an LoD bumper, make sure to tell them which winch you'll be installing so that the winch plate is drilled for it.)
Looks are a different issue than functionality. Some people really don't like one, or the other. Add a stinger and you can really get some interesting comments. (I thought about painting the end of the stinger flesh colored just to give all the critics a chance to get in one last shot.)
I am really happy with the stubby.... but, to each his own.
Good luck.
Jeff
a lot to think about. Seems most of you guys prefer to run stubbies. But I sure do like the look of the Expedition 1 trail series full width bumper. It looks awesome! I'm going to take everything you guys have said into consideration. Thanks again for the help and input. It's always helpful and appreciated

OK...my reasoning is different, but everyone here knows mine always will be.
I am going with a full width, so I can continue with my trademark QuadLight setup. LOD emailed me that they have completed the full front, but I have too much going on right now to afford it...maybe in a few months...sigh. and i planned on getting the first one.
