Stupid rubbing thing
I would just like to state, for the record, that this thing sucks. Yes, it does rub, all the time. What ingenious Jeep engineer decided we'd want a protrusion like this poking into the wheel well? This is with the Full Traction 3" Ultimate and 35's. (This is the front of the left rear wheel, in case it's hard to tell.)

my stock rubi rail never rubbed with the same set-up you have
but i did take a grinder, trim it off a couple inches, and then put the end cap right back on...looked great when i did it!Also trimmed the pinch seam at the same time.

I am probably going to be doing the same thing soon. I have a similar set up on my two door and forsee rubing in my future. I can only imagine the complaints had DC not made the rails full length though........"So I was out in the rocks today and one slipped off the end of my rail and munched my rear quarter........."

Here's what I did to solve the problem. First, I played with a few ideas where to cut the rock rail. I ended up cutting off 1 1/2" because it left a pretty good weld bead in place - it's not continuously welded. I know a few minutes with the welder could have made any place a good place, but lazy is what lazy does.

Next, I sliced off the pinch seam. Note the gap between the different layers. Mine was filled with some crispy foam and mud. I figured mud can't be a good thing so I used a screwdriver to punch the foam/mud back about 1/4" and filled the void with silicon caulking.

I primed and painted the cut ends. On the pinch seam, I just sprayed black paint in a bit. I put a dab of Goop glue on the end cap since I didn't want to re-drill for the goofy plastic retainer. I can still get the cap off easy enough.

I'm not that original. Here's the thread I used for ideas:

A n00b question - I have a Black & Decker sawzall thing; if I bought a metal-cutting blade would that suffice for both cutting jobs? Or is there a better tool I should buy, like a grinder thing?
