I have been debating this for a while and concluded no. You can do a LS1 swap for $13k, the superchargers are about half, plus installation.

An aluminum block LS weights only slightly more than the iron block 3.8. You can get a 6 speed auto tranny which is badass. Great torque down low for spooling up big tires. Some chev engines has quirks though. Hemi's too. But hemis are heavy. Ls is a great choice for a swap. But, my friend with his 6.0 was getting 11mpg in his avalanche with stock 31s. had to get his manifolds replaced as they warped too. Superchargers are still much more affordable, ripp claims 2-4mpg increase, power is more than adequate and superchargers are just cool. But, more moving parts, still missing 2 cylinders, still less power down low, stuck with oem tranny and 91 octane/tuning needed.

I've been on the fence with this question as well. I like the SC option over the V8 swap because it's cheaper, I can do it myself and the RIPP SC is very reliable from what I read.

I've never driven one with a SC, so I don't know really what I'd be getting....would it be like I expected? Less? More?

To have a V8 dropped in, 1) I personally can't do it. 2) I don't know any reliable shops in my area that's known for doing it. 3) It's more expensive.

By not doing anything, I could just take the money I'd spend on the SC (cheapest route) and put it towards a new truck with the engine I want. Then I wouldn't need the Jeep as my daily driver. That's the option I'm starting to lean towards.

I love my RIPP setup. I have a 2008 and did the supercharger and headers. I installed them myself so saved a bunch of cash there. RIPP's tech support is excellent and they've helped me quickly the two times I needed an updated tune for the programmer.

My fuel economy didn't improve; but I also have 4.88s, 35s, and a very heavy foot.

Would you do it again if you bought another Jeep? Is the power about what you expected?

my 2011 With 5:38 gears and 37's couldn't get out of its own way. On a two lane behind a big truck, I was there for the duration. Now with the RIPP it's like a new vehicle. The way I decided I gave my self 2 options 1) by a trailer and make a queen out of it, or 2) drive it to and from. This year I have done the Rubicon and Moab. I live in So Cal and drove it there and back both places. I would say yes I would do it again. If I was dumb enough to buy another 3.8L

Yes that's correct I have a sprintex system up for sale, it was awesome downlow in the rpm band and would just pull similar to a diesel which was what I wanted. But once you get in the upper rpm range it just hauls ass, this is with 35's and 4.10 gears and a fully loaded 4 door.

Only reason I'm selling it is because I am going the LS route because I received a motor for free from a buddy of mine who wrote off his truck. The engine still runs perfectly so it's a good deal!!
