Might I reccomend Yukon Gears?
From Randys Ring and Pinion in Wash State
I've had great results with them in the past
Same gears for the JK

Factory gears tend to be set up real loose to alleviate any noise.

That statement is partly true. But if you are saying gear whine is caused by the pinion being to tight then premature pinion bearing failure will occur.

The problem with these gears and the reason they whine is because of the way the are mfg. They are very hard to get a good pattern on.

If indeed the gear whine is from the bearing preload being to tight it will not go away. The preload will hopefully never change.

I called Superior gear customer service and asked them about the complaints of the gears winning. I was told that they are making adjustments to the gear lapping. He told me they were on there forth batch of gears and they were improving
Its good to hear they realize there is a problem and they are fixing it.

We had two sets that would not set up and superior was very good about the warranty they didnt even question it and sent us two new ones.

That's great that they're taking care of the manufacturing defects, but that doesn't really put my mind at ease for my future gear change. Because, the poor customer is eating shop time and living without their Jeep in the days that it takes to resolve that. Obviously, there will always be the occasional defect, but this seems like a much larger quality issue. Personally, I will not upgrade (which means lift, tires, and everything) until it's resolved.

I wouldn't let gear noise keep me from upgrading. I have my lift and 35's on and it is acceptable with my 4.10 gearing. By the time I have the $$$ to regear, I am sure it will be figured out.

I'm about 30 days away from pulling the trigger on a set of 5.13s. I have been reluctant to go with Superior because of the blips here. I almost certainly will not go with them now. Not gonna risk hours of labor to get them installed and be dissatisfied. It's great that they are on top of warrenty, but I'd be much more confident if they warrantied labor as well if it was a product defect. That'd be a true stamp of confidence. In the mean time, I think I'll wait this one out.

Any word on Precision Gear?

correct me if I am wrong, but I think that the superior gears are made by precision. (not sure, I thought that is what it said on my box, but don't have it in front of me right now). Still issues here, the locker issue I am having is due to install, not the gears.

7000 plus miles on 5.13s with 37s. love them, never a sound, been checked for wear twice and everything is perfect in there. Also run AMSOIL. The things a tractor!

Oh the noise wouldn't -- in fact I might like the noise. My issue is with what is causing the noise which seemed to be addressed by David's statement: "But if you are saying gear whine is caused by the pinion being to tight then premature pinion bearing failure will occur."

Later in that same message you said you had a few sets that would not "set up". Is that a completely different issue?
