Yeah works great. As long as you screw them in the beams it'll hold just fine. I bought two 2x4's and plan to drill holes for the hooks and have the that hold the top instead of hooking to the top itself and bending its shape over time.

Rex,

I have the exact same setup, except I managed to get mine almost vertical. I have had mine hanging for 3-4 months and all is well. I love that style of bike hoist...I have 4 right now and probably could use a few more.

Rex

I built your setup this afternoon.

1. I put 72" long 2x4s as braces with lagbolt eyes in by 1". sheaves were set outbound 40" from center for an 80" width.
2. I screwed a couple pieces of leftover 2x4 into the aft board so the the back of the cab cannot slip off.
3. I tied the forward and aft eyebolts to each other with a piece of line so that the aft 2x4 cannot slip backward and allow the cab to fall off ( e.g. belts and suspenders)
4. Lowes has just dropped the price of the hoist system by $5 each.
5. Tied a line from top of presure rod by glass to 2x4 which keeps rear window from opening.

Works pissa..

Thanks for the write up

It is key to keep those lines as vertical as possible. As you raise your system, you will be pulling against yourself, if they are not vertical... Makes sense?

I'm a Brand New Jeep Owner and so far, I love it!!

I am going to put up this lift tomorrow and have a couple of questions -

On #1 - Help me out with this one - Sheaves? 72" long 2x4, but an 80" width? Sorry if thats a stupid question, engines I can do, but construction....not so much!

Does #2 & #3 accomplish the same thing?

I found the hoist at Target today for $19.99.

Thanks for the great Ideas!!!

it states that the max load is 50 lbs. Even with 2 (assuming that you can simply double the load rate...which I'm not 100% convinced you can), I'd be concerned about long-term. Isn't the 4dr top right around 100#?

I think I read the 4dr top is 95 pounds. I think its safe to assume if something has a capacity of 50# then two will have 100# capacity minimum. Typically they are probably over engineered.

I love the idea! It looks good and provides you with the option to remove your top without the assistance of a neighbor or friend.

If you're worried about the weight, lower the top onto the floor and use a 6" Super-Tri Dolly at each corner to move the top by yourself. For those of you storing your top on the garage floor (like myself) you've got to get a couple of the Super-Tri dolly's. They work awesome and only cost $12 at Ace Hardware. (I initially bought 4 to move my pool table around the room while installing the hardwood floors.)
