Default Suspension Help

First off, money is an issue.

I need a little assistance with directing my thought process. I purchesed a 2010 Wrangler Sport a month or so ago. It is stock and brand new.

The wife and I did White Rim Road and Arches with it last week. Since this is my first Jeep, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with what I thought were some crazy roads.

However, I would like to be able to climb over larger rocks with certainty.

My fear is ground clearance. I was looking to lift the Jeep 2-3 inches. Is this enough? Tough question I know. I am not sure how folks rate the roads, but I am thinking Jeep trails rated at 3-4 are what I am going to be most interested in. I am thinking the road in Arches must be rated at a 2.

I know nothing about lift kits and improved suspensions.

If you have a link that will explain or contain lots of information comparing them, please post it.

I was looking at Procomp with a 2.5 inch coil replacement lift kit with Rancho shocks. The total cost is around 7-800 bucks if I install it, and more if I have to pay.

I like this price, however, is it doing me any good for off road? How will it change my gas mileage on road? I am running 31" tires and plan to increase to 33 inch in the future. However, I will still be runnig stock suspension with a 2.5 inch lift and replacement shocks; if I use t his kit. Is it worth my money or should I wait until I know more about Jeeps and lifts?

X2 on this one. I have it and L-O-V-E it. For the money it is the best lift on the market for the combination of DD/Off Road use.

I just did a Teraflex 2.5" lift on my 08 Sahara and added 35" tires. I went with Teraflex because they only do Jeeps and they came recommended by 4 wheelers and from the Jeep dealership (which has Mopar lifts made by Teraflex). The combination I have is the biggest bang for you buck without having to do longer brake lines, new drive shafts, etc. The 2.5" is all bolt on, no welding, grinding or cutting.

I got about 2.5" of lift and I wouldnt recomend flexing the suspension without extending the brake lines.

Thanks! But MOPAR lifts are not from TeraFlex. There's just a lot of Jeep Dealers out there that choose to use TeraFlex.

I'm at work and have not had the time to finish the thread. It is quite envolved but gives me something to work with.

I am thinking I would like a simple coil replacement kit with improved shocks. I susspect that will be all I need. OR, if, in the future, I chose to live on the edge, I can alway modify it further. At this time it is a transportation Jeep and not just an off road toy.

I'll finish the thread and then revisit this forum. As well, I will look at the suggestions posted.

Just remember that as you go higher, you are more likely to want to add more components, and the costs can go up significantly.

With added height:
The Caster angle goes lower, causing flightier handling. At what height will 'you' want to address it, and which of the 4 options is right for you?
Both axles will move further offcenter. At what height will you want to address it, and which option will you choose?
Both swaybars will be angled down. When and how will you address it?
The brake lines will be stretched tight. When and how?
Both Driveshafts will be at steeper angles. At what point should you be concerned for your specific JK model and lift?
Bumpstops?
Backspace or wheel spacers?
etc...


Just a heads up to look past the price tag and consider everything involved.
