Default Sway Bar Link Question

So, I went out on my first run this past weekend with a good group of people from the forum, had a blast. During a moderate section of the trail I heard what sounded to be a spring "doooooing" popping out of place on the drivers side. I stopped and checked out the spring but could not seem to find anything wrong, I kept going.

At the end of the trail I engaged the sway bar. As I started down the dirt road I head a horrible clanking sound at every small bump. I pulled over and checked the spring once again and noticed that the sway bar link (drivers side) was rubbing or hitting the spring. At that poing I checked the the passenger side to compare. The passenger side had a good 2 finger distance between the spring and the sway bar link. So I looked at the drivers side, once again, and noticed that the spring had slightly rotated out of the "seat" and was bulging foward. So we removed the weight from the front drivers side wheel and were able to rotate the spring so it would sit in the "seat" the proper way. After doing that we fixed the horrible clanking sound.
Sorry for the banter just wanted to give some background. Ok now for the question.

I know noice that there is still almost no room in between the drivers side spring and the sway bar link, almost seems like they are touching although no noise. The passenger side has a good 2" inches of clearance.

How did this happen? Is it normal? should I worry? Can I fix it and how?

thanks!
Chip

My first guess would be that you are running a lift with the factory trackbar and no bracket.

yes?

that could cause the difference as your axle would not be centered.

edit: sry, i checked your profile but I don't know what a 4" P.C. M3 is....

Yes that is correct, factory trackbar, with bb, no bracket.
Isnt that farly normal?

Im still fairly new to the suspension side of jeeps but if the axle is not "centered" wouldent it pull one way or the other or possibly cause premature tire wear.
I have not noticed ether of these scenerios.

thanks!

yes it's fairly normal to run a bb as you are with no other mods but running a big bb with the factory tb would result in the excessive "off center" you have. an adj tb would brings things back to center and no it wouldn't necessarily cause the Jeep to "pull" or your tires to wear funny, you're axles just aren't centered directly under the rig. This condition will also put additional stress on the factory axle brackets.

Contact David at Northridge, he'll set you up with adj track bars, I have the JKS rear and a Superlift frt. But I'm planning on changing my frt out fot a TeraFlex since they're beefy as hell.
