Default Synthetic winch line with a roller fairlead = winching faux pas???

Yo yo yo erre'body!!!

Well, after just getting my winch back in good working order...I am considering running an AmSteel synthetic line on my 9.5ti....something to do with lugging 40+ pounds of steel cable in 109+ degree heat in the Mojave a month ago...but I digress.

I was checking out the AmSteel on Quadratec, the 125' of 5/16" 12 strand UHMWPF rope:

It looks like a GREAT rope (pricey, but great), but it says that you should ONLY use an aluminum hawse fairlead versus a traditional roller fairlead. Any thoughts? And anybody running a synthetic line with a traditional roller fairlead? Any issues? I'm curious to know so that I don't jack the rope up using the wrong fairlead. As always, everyone's input is greatly appreciated. Thankee kindly...yit de deeeeeeeeeeee!!!

I bought a 3/8 line. Ok with roller fairlead, only if it is new and has no knicks in the rollers.
Also, it was necessary to get the heavy duty snatch block so the normal Warn one will not
dig into the line. And....I lock my line at the loop to the top of the winch, too easy and expensive to let some one steel it.

If your pulling at up and down angles you will at some point bind it up and screw up your expensive ass winch line. better safe than sorry and its alot cheaper than a new line.

Everything that's been said, plus it's also quite a bit lighter than the roller fairlead, taking weight off of your bumper and raising your front end.

Also if you go synthetic, you should also get a new snatch block to ensure there are no burrs on it from your steel cable.
Another thing to remember too is that your synthetic cable should have a nylon sleeve on it in case you need to go over rocks.

I use Delrin Rollers with my synthetic rope. Same as the metal one's but they are made of Delrin plastic.

The metal rollers if they have already been used with steel cable will tear the rope apart after a few pulls. Either get a Hawse or replace your current rollers with Delrin.

Roller fairleads work great if new and with no burrs. Note that the two vertical rollers way over lap the hortizonal rollers, there is no way the synthetic line can get wedged in any of the 4 corners. And... there is less friction since the line rolls instead of direct contact with the solid fairlead. But... it does stick out and weighs more.

I am using a Viking Fireline from Winchline.com. There is a roller fairlead that is designed for synthetics. It is the only one I have ever seen. Rollers feel like a hard composite but the pitch was "they reduce friction created by synthetic on steel, blah blah blah". It works well for me. Cost was comparable to a Warn roller.

I have made one pull with my AmSteel 1/2" synth on MM Roller and had no problem. it was down hill and at about 45* BUT I did order a hawse and got it but it turns out it is steel not alluminium UGH sometimes one has to say things SEVERAL times to the parts store guy.....so now I am debating on returning it and reordering (another month long wait) or just running the powdercoated steel one. ANY comments on that???
