Default tailgate issue

I am new to JK Forum, Came here for info which I know someone her will know. I Just purchased a 2012 rubican unlimited; Put 4 inch lift, smitty buit front bumper and winch and 33's on. Love the jeep, a little under powered but still enjoy. My question is: i used the stock spare tire mount and have yanked out the stop twice. I am not swinging the tailgate hard, just opening up and the pin snaps within the rear speaker area. The dealership now after doing the mods, tell me that my tire is too heavy for the stock tailgate and to now purchase a aftermarket bumper with rear tire swing. $800-1000. I have seen on the posts the new terraflex spare tire holder. Looks great. My question is will I still run into the same issue with the heavier tire on the new teraflex bracket system, still yanking out the tail gate stop. any information will be much appreciated! info on bumpers or the terralfex tire holder.
thank you
dave

Hey Dave, congrats on the new Jeep! You'll want to upgrade to 35's with that 4" lift soon enough, just a few questions about it, did they install new driveshafts? It's recommended with that much lift, also an AEV Procal to adjust your speedometer, trans shift points, ect.. Did your Jeep come with 4.10 gears, a big plus if it did.

The Teraflex tire carrier will solve all of your tailgate issues. It's very well built and can handle up to a 37" tire.

Hey man, congrats on the new Jeep.

The issue is most certainly the hinges, the little pneumatic ram on the gate is just there to hold the gate open, not act as a stop. The stop is an integrated part of the door hinge. The link below goes a little more in detail.

Thanks for the info. The dealership said I did not need new drive shafts, so no I haven't yet, but will look into. I went with manual transfer with 4:10's. it pulls enough but is it ever enough. I will look into the terra flex . Thanks again

I am running 35s and haven't had issues with shares or gears. I am using a teraflex tire carrier and couldn't be happier. Worth every penny.

I broke that hinge on my brand new '12 JKUR by opening the tailgate door to far with no tire on it. I pried the twisted arm out and tossed it lol

I have a 37" on my TeraFlex HD Hinged Tire Carrier and I can open/close it with one hand easily. Even my 10 year old daughter can easily open and close it.

thank you for your input! One question I have before I purchase; I understand the system is great and can handle the weight, but does the redesigned hinges have a stop built into them so you do not rely on that crap that Chrysler came up with to stop the tailgate from swinging past 90 degrees? Thanks again for your help. Plan on purchasing today if your answer is yes.
