Talk me into 35's
Ok, so the safety's off and I"m juuuuuust about to pull the trigger on my wheels and tires finally. I've made up my mind on what wheels and what tires, but I'm STILL torn between going with 285's or 315's. I'm going with Duratracs, so I feel like the lighter A/T tire will help retain some mpg, power, ride quality, noise, etc. but for some reason I just can't decide if 35's are the definite way to go. My JK is a '13 Sport with 3.73's. It's my daily driver, I do some wheeling and off-roading, but am not a rock crawler nut. I don't currently have a lift on it, but I'm certainly not opposed to adding a moderate one down the road. I do, however, have a TF Leveling Kit (pucks) sitting in the box that will go on with the wheels/tires, and trimming the pinch seam and adding flat fenders is not out of my playbook either. Re-gearing, on the other hand, is.
It seems about half the crowd on here favors the 33's, while the other half favors the 35's, and there are plenty of people who say go ahead and hit the 35's because you'll regret it soon if you do 33's. Obviously, the 35's look better and have their off-road advantages, but are they worth all the "fuss" that may or may not come with them i.e. rubbing, gears, fenders, tire carrier, etc.? On the other hand, 33's have their advantages too, mainly in avoiding a lot of the things I just named, retaining mpg, power, cost, etc.
So, let's get some opinions and real-world experiences from those of you that have either, or have had both. Without getting into specifics about "what do you do with your Jeep" and "what's your main objective with your build" type questions, let's just keep it to generalities, because after all, for the vast majority of us our Jeeps don't fit into one specific category and rather must be a "do-it-all" vehicle for us in many different scenarios both on and off road. Help me and undoubtedly countless others on here, decide which size is "king" of the JK.

And mine measure just over a 34'. Duratracs are light and run a little small to begin with. Loss of power is not as much as others make it out to be. it's a Jeep, it's not built for speed. You want speed, add a hemi to your to do list.
Granted, I have a Rubicon with 4.10s regarding power loss. However, I bought my '08 with 33'' Toyo OC MT's and I am already looking for 35'' flavor Treadwrights. My first Jeep 10 years ago was a 97 4 banger, so I'm used to a fairly slow Jeep even though mine is perfectly fine for me. I don't need to worry about my Jeep as a highway vehicle as my wife has a 2013 Edge and is the obvious choice for long distance travel. My Jeep is my toy and DD to work where it is left half the week while I drive a city vehicle. I like my 33'' Toyo's, but I am craving something bigger. Ultimately, it is up to you and what you want. As long as you do it correctly (lift, gears if appropriate, etc.), knock yourself out. Good luck bud!
