Installed mine today with the new carrier. Picked up from Northridge. Easy to do. Slight snag installing the hinge. Top two left torx would not go in for nothin. Looked aligned. I thought the threads were bad so I took everything off and tested the threads. All good so I installed all over again. Same thing, the top two left torx would not go in. I then took off the other torx bolts and started with the two top left torx and then the rest just worked fine.
Solid unit.

Mine started to do same thing because I was trying to install myself and putting weight on the initial two torx bolts. I used some "wood" yeah I said it , the help support the weight to start threading the torx in and all went well

Went super-smooth, guess I got lucky for once. Stout product and perfect for what I was looking for: stock look, strong, while keeping overall weight down and same visibility! Rotopax and CB are next.

I wish they would have thrown in some black caps to cover those exposed bolts for a more finished look. I guess I will be painting mine

Only Gripe:
The thrid brake light. Looks good in the center of the tire but that is just one more thing to have to take off to get to your spare when needed.

Wonder just how important it is for me to put the third light back on.

Is there any additional support inside on the hinge?

Depends on your state laws.

Watched the video and it answered one question. But i have another - how much weight can this hold? I see they put a 38 on it. But i'm looking at 35's and possibly a jerry can. can it support it?

Yes, I'm testing a 37" mounted on beadlocks with a high life/RotoPax combo right now.
