Default Which Teraflex shock?

Hey guys,

I installed the Teraflex 2.5 coil kit with shock adapters 2 months ago and now am looking to install Teraflex VSS shocks. I ended up with 3.5" lift in the front and 3" in the back. I do plan on installing .5" spacers in the back.

Quick newbie question. Do I go with the 2.5" shock (what comes with kit?) or go ahead and get the 3-4" shock.

Does it matter at all if I do not plan on rock crawling, etc.

Longer shocks means more axle droop. More axle droop means longer brake lines and more severe driveshaft angles. It could also mean coils falling out of the perches and over-compression on uptravel.

As long as you address all of the issues for downtravel, and use enough bumpstop that you are not over-compressing, longer shocks can work.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will take it then that I should just go with the 2.5" since I wont be doing anything to crazy.

How did you get a 3.5" lift up front with a 2.5 inch lift kit? Are you 2dr or 4?

Yes, it is a 2 dr. with the older T-flex 4 dr. kit. Brings up another question. Could my X shocks be causing the cupping I am getting on the edge of my tires?

Thanks wazooz for the confidence builder. I'd rather get it right this time.

also, bad shocks or other suspension related components can cause cupping.

If you want articulation, the ones you want end with the last 3 numbers 200. They are the ones from the older 2.5 kits that are now labeled for the 3"-4" kits. Just make sure you check you're ABS and Brake lines at full flex.

Go to their web site and download their catalog. There is a a section that shows the actual shock dimensions.
