Terflex long vs. flex arm
Forgive my ignorance, but can anyone tell me the differences between the Teraflex 4" long arm and 4" flex arm kits? Also, does anyone currently running these kits have any complaints?
Thanks!
Thanks!
...the long arm is longer than stock and the flex arm is the same length as the stock ones but just with flex joints in the ends. The long arm will give you a much better ride and better flex. I have not seen or heard anyone on here who has had any complaints about either kit. Either kit is great but if you have the money for the long arm, get that. The Flex arm will perform great on and off road.
but try searching to see what it looks like on others JK's. Also, I am sure there is plenty of other threads on here.
as mentioned, flex arms are just heavy duty adjustable factory length control arms. long arms are just that, a lot longer than stock and they will require a lot of hacking and welding to install new mounts for them. if you're not planning to run anything larger than a 37" tire, you will be fine with the flex arms. if you can afford long arms, they will offer a nicer ride on pavement if you plan on going 4" of lift or taller and running 37's.

All true, but be careful on the "better flex" part. When I was doing my research I asked Tera for RTI scores. I don't recall the exact numbers because it has been a while, but the difference was smaller than you would think. In the TJs, long arms definetly added flex. I ran the TF long arms on my TJ and they were great! But the JKs do not get the same big step up in flex from long arms. I think the decision on long arms should be based on ride and handling, as WOL pointed out. Of course, cost of the materials and the labor to install is important as well. Just my $.02.
If you talking about a 2 door...........Not sure what the impact on flex is.

I have had both sets installed on my Jeep, and I agree that the number one thing is handling (if you go 4 inches or less). The axles move on a larger arc with the long arm so they don't move forward and back as much as with the short arm. The short arm gives you plenty of articulation for most sane trails.
Yeah I am currently installing my new 4" long arm kit in my JK. I LOVE how it coming together now!! I would save up the cash & get the long arm if I were you. Seems like it will be worth it. I am a man who likes to buy something that I don't have to work on & replace stuff over & over. I buy the best thing I want once. That way I don't have to do minor upgrades & waste as I go.
