Look up Rob_Engineer. He has lots of knowledge on this topic. He's got a thread (which I can't find now) that likely has info that's helpful to you
Receiver Hitch Info:

While this is towing in general, perhaps it's of interest to you.

If you've got stress cracks on the hitch then you really need to buy an actual towing vehicle. All standard hitches will mount the same. Going to one of the aftermarket bumpers with an integrated hitch is a bandaid over the bleeding elephant in the room that you've exceeded the weight capacity, but it's a bandaid that may work for you in the meantime.

Hey, rob_engineer here. What you need is to replace your rear bumper and receiver with the smittybilt XRC bumper. It is rated for 5000 pounds. I towed a 5000 pound toy hauler with it with a weight distribution hitch for many miles. A world of difference compared to the stock setup. The XRC ties the receiver into the jeeps frame rails via the plate steel bumper. I don't have that trailer anymore, but still have the bumper installed. It looks good as new after nearly 3 years.

Kinda offtopic but still fits the thread, but is the low 2,000 pound tow rating because of the bumper/hitch or actual capacity the transmission can take? I am trying to flat tow my 81 toyota trail truck behind my jeep with a two bar to go trail riding. I estimate the truck around 3,000lbs.
