thinking of trading
Hey guys, just wanted to get some input. I was at the dealership this weekend and saw a jeep like mine(2008 unlimited) with a teraflex lift and 35 inch mtz on pintler wheels. I drove the thing thinking it would give me a good idea if i wanted to lift mine but after talking to the sales rep i could have the same payment with all the goodies of this other jeep. So my question is, when i drove it, it actually drove and rode a lot better than mine. Over drive stayed in on the highway and around was great. It did have a procal in the back so everything should be good. However, according to the dash, it actually got better mpg than my stock jeep. City was a little worse (17 in mine to 14.5) highway was(19 mine to 20). I dont think it has been regeared but i can live with those numbers. Also, stock bumpers so no extra weight and 3.73 gears( same as mine). What do you guys think? Should i make the trade. Thanks
Need more info about the lift...could be a $250 budget boost??
if its something that simple, why trade a whole vehicle for a couple hundred bucks worth of parts...I highly doubt it's long arm, or even short arm, most likely a cheap budget lift.
Ultimately, trading your vehicle is going to cost you...a lot.
Are you financing more $$?
Are terms of the loan changing?
% rate change?
I wouldn't believe a single word the dealer is telling you, your payment may stay the same(very easy to do), but they are gouging you somewhere...unless its a clean swap, it's gonna cost you...
I would find out what kind of lift they have on it...find out what they are trying to convince you to buy

The lift is a teraflex 3 inch. A good lift in my opinion. My thing is finance longer or pay 5 grand to ha e the same thing. And does the mileage sound right. Im in nc triad area so not a lot of hills and a 15 min. drive at 35mph to work everyday
No. Don't. You'll pay way more in the long-run than just saving for the lift on your current Jeep. The "keep the same payment" game is the oldest trick in the dealer book. They can play with interest rates (high), hose you on trade-in, hose you on loan principle, anything to make the deal great for them and APPEAR great for you. Payments should be the absolute last thing on your mind when looking at a different car. Negotiate price of other car, trade-in value, and interest rate first. If the payment doesn't work out then, it's not a good deal after all. Don't hose yourself. Stick with your current Jeep. I wouldn't trust a 3-year old modified rig from a dealer. I'd have to talk with the PO first.
I'd do a little more digging for sure. 35's with 3.73 would most likely feel sluggish and it'd be hunting in O-drive on highway inclines. I've read hundreds of posts regarding dealers all over the country not having proper facts and info on their vehicles, do you have any reason to believe your dealer is different? Do your own homework, that guy just wants his commission. Good luck, I hope it works out.
Besides money, interest and all the other points folks bring up, I would be most concerned with little to no warranty on the trade...and why did the person trade? There could be nothing wrong with it and it could last forever... or it could be an oil consumer/burner that has been run low more then once...they could have put big tires on and not re calibrated...which would leave the vehicle with more miles on it than the odometer actually reads...if you bought your jeep new then you know its entire history...well worth the piece of mind and just save for the lift you want...then you will also know that is installed properly too.
You are focusing on the wrong thing - payment amount. Look at the overall cost of the vehicle (purchase price + finance charges) compared to it's value. All too often people get fleeced by a dealership because all they are focusing on is what they are paying each month. You may be paying the same each month but for how many additional months over your current loan?

It seems to me like an easy but expensive way to have a lifted Jeep. I would pay off your current Jeep and save the monthly payment amount to mod the Jeep. I wont finance any funds to mod my Jeep. Cash only.
Couple questions.
1. When will your current Jeep be paid off.
2. How many months will you have to pay on the lifted Jeep?

It could be worth it - what's the total cost difference of your current payoff plus adding the goodies you want...vs. the new to you jeep with everything already on it? I see you are in NC...you may want to check out NCAuto in Clemmons. I test drove one of theirs to see if the Teraflex lift was what I really wanted. They were very accomodating and gave me alot of great info.
I still have 65 months of payoff if i pay the reg. Monthly payment. 72 for the new one. I bought mine used as well with 35k on it. Total out the door would be 26k. They are giving me 19.5 for mine. It has been recalibrated due to the procal
