To those that have re-geared.... worth it?
]Alright iv been tryna figure out this whole re gearing thing and still don't understand how people are doing it for so cheap..I went to a local, reputable off road shop by me and they said 3500$ for a rear gear..is that front and rear? Lockers? I know labor is gunna cost some bucks but I'm just tryna get a feel for what other ppl have spent. I have 3.21's and a 6 speed and think for what I'm using the jeep for 4.56 will be fine for me since I can deal with the 3.21's. Any thing to help clear me up on this would be great!
My concern is with the sluggish performance & bad fuel mileage since going up to 35's, i would like better fuel mileage & better response/power.
I have a '10 auto with 37"s and I am runnings 5.13s. Trails only really, not real rock-fun and I am easy on the skinny! If and when my 30 fails me, I am probably going to go with a used 44 off a rubi since I don't wheel hard enough to justify the PR. My fingers are crossed that it is not for a while though.
I had mine regeared at the dealership(I have a good jeep dealership here locally) I supplied the parts which cost me 350 new in box from a member plus 125.00 for carrier and spider gears. The dealership charged me 1100 roughly for install lube and gaskets, plus that includes changing oil at 500 miles. So just under 1600. Worth every penny. The jeep is a blast to drive now. It was somewhat disappointing with 35s and 3.21s. 4.88s made all the difference in the world. Rocky top jeep in Sevierville tn is a great jeep dealership. Just saying, cause I here so many horror stories about dealerships. I wouldn't hesitate to let them mess with my jeep.
Just do it! If you can afford to do it then you should...you want be satisfied until you do. I use mine as a daily driver and 4.88s are perfect for me. If I was on the interstate everyday I would have went with 4.56.
