Tire carrier question...
If you do use it as a temp solution, don't keep the 35 on there for wheeling, throw it in the back. The bumps and jolts is what is going to put the most stress on it, not just the weight and normal driving.

I have had a 35 on it for a few years. Using the tailgate bumpstops to stop the spare from twisting side-to-side, which helps, but I think I have been lucky so far. A carrier is on the list, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
I debated this years ago. Wanted to upgrade my tires before I had the money for the carrier. A little older and grayer and I think all this boils down to what you do with your Jeep. I bought my Jeep and thought it was tough enough to do any off-roading. For a year, I broke (most) stock pieces! Then I tried to go cheap with replacements. Broke those too!
If daily driving, 35 on stock fine. Little off-roading? 5-10 trips and I would start worrying. Would not go above a 5 on the trail with 35 on stock carrier. Think if you take it easy in between 35s and replacing bumper, will have no issues. Once you get that 35 off the frame, a 10 will be a no-brainer!
