Default Tire Choices

My lift is on and my wheels come in within the next few days. Next task? Tires!

My original plan was to go with 35x12.50R16 (LT315/75R16) BFG KM1 or KM2s. But i soon noticed that many a people on the forum are driving Toyo Open Country M/Ts. After doing some research about the Toyos i actually found that many people really like the Toyos. Most every where i go they get a 4.5ish out of 5 rating what the BFG get a 3.5-4 out of 5 rating. Its a daily driver but I drive a 900 mile trip atleast twice a year with many side trips here and there *cough moab cough*.

I was hoping that some of you Toyo and BFG KM(1/2) owners could give me some personal opinions about them. Im really looking for a few things:

treadware, noise, offroad ability (mud, rock, sand, snow), on road ability (wet, dry, snowy), cost, and anything else you want to add.

If you run some other tire, feel free to brag about them here.

last of all:

PICTURES!!!!

I have BFG All Terrain tires. They work very well for the off roading I do, but I had them on my old CJ and on my Dodge Ram. They wear very well. They were the last tires that I put on my Dodge Ram, and when I traded it the tires looked as good as new and had about 40,000 miles on them.... Not to mention, according to the local tire store here go with the 315/ 75R16 which is equivalent to a 34.8" x 12.9 tire. But if you go with the metric sizes, they come with a road warranty... My BFG A/Ts have a 40,000 mile road warranty and with 15,000 on them they do not have very much wear on them...

Guess I'm a KM2 fan, 35x12.50x17s, wish I had bought the 37s but I'm happy for now, they are quiet on the road, very minimal noise....but I like the noise ...anyway on the rocks they are incredible, great wrap, tough sidewalls, in the mud they are stupid good, but I don't much like mud anymore...can't get my teen daughters to wash my Jeep afterwards...on the sand they are fine, rain they are great, snow ...I'm in SE TX so I don't know ...but for trips I love them, smooth as silk.

Remember too, that it all depends on what you're gonna be doin. If you're gonna be seein mud a good bit, then a M/T is the way to go. For me though, I'll probably end up with some sort of 33" A/T. Probably the BFG. I use mine more for a DD....even though not right now, and I just want it to be as quiet as possible.

I have a mixed trail list. During the fall, winter, spring im in Arizona. I end up doing a lot more rock crawling and sand type stuff than anything else. But when im back in in Co for the Summer im in the Mountains with snow run off all summer creating good mud, rivers, still do rocks but less of it. My current A/Ts are amazing but then again i want a little something more for what i do.

From experience with the Toyo Open Country M/T's very good wearing tire, quiet Mudder, great offroad traction and sharp looking tire!

You should look at the Cooper STT's Tek3. Very similar tread to the Toyo M/Ts, weigh +10lbs lighter/tire than the Toyo M/T's, are cheaper and are actually quieter than my Toyo M/T's on my Dodge Ram. Wear on the Cooper's seem to be the same as the Toyo's....but I only have 10,000km on them.
