Tire pressure for 37x12.5x17 MTR/K's on heavy 2 dr
Hello
I love my 37's but the ride had gotten a little bit harsh, more noticed by my wife on a road trip...
I checked and when installed they went with 39 pounds!
Is that a little bit too high?
I do have heavy bumpers and a winch...
Can someone share their psi for 37's for highway travel?
Matthew

I've noticed running lower does help. I ran 38-40 at first and then tried 35 then went to 30. I found its a lot nicer of a ride between 30 and 32 psi. But watch your tires for cupping or uneven tire wear.

39psi sounds high. Try 30psi.
In order to have even tread wear, you may do the chalk test:
In order to have even tread wear, you may do the chalk test:
Using a chalk, mark a line across the tread.
Drive a bit on smooth pavement/asphalt.
If the chalk line in worn more at the center, the pressure is too high.
If the chalk line in worn more at the sides, the pressure is too low.
If the chalk line in worn evenly across the tread, the pressure is right.
This would bring you to the proper pressure for even wear, and would probably be less than 39psi.

What's your load range ?
You really should chalk them for psi that fits your jeep.
I run E 35's and run them at 25 psi
Running too much air will wear the centers of the tires.

I have a 4 door with 37's at 20 to 23 pounds dependent upon load. I had a TJ with 35's and ran 18 lb. Do the chalk test mentioned in this thread to determine the ideal tire pressure.

Thanks for all the great feedback!
I'm to lower it to around 32 tomorrow and when I have time during the week I'm going to try the chalk test, I bought the chalk a while ago and hadn't gotten around to testing it

Around town and some short highway hops they seemed ok, I just attributed the somewhat rougher ride to the new tire size, new gearing and all the stuff I changed...
It took a long road trip to realize it
