Tire pressure
I just put on 295/75/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers in load range D. Discount tire set them at 37# of preasure. I think that is a little high. How low can I drop the preasure before my stock set tire preasure sensors sound off? I will want to keep it about 3# over the sensor minimum.
The short answer is 37psi, that is what your TPMS comes from the factory set at. Now that is not gonna be the proper pressure for the tires you have now. You should be looking in the 27-29psi range for those 295's. You have three real options. Ignore the light/ding, get the dealership to reflash it (some will some wont) or buy an aftermarket programmer (AEV, Hypertech, Superchips).
From the FAQ up top there...
I'm running the same tires, and have been changing the pressure anywhere from 27 - 32, looking for that 'sweet' spot. Haven't noticed any real difference in that range. Over 32 gives too firm of a ride, and more wandering.
The dealer can reset the tpms, but ask to make sure 'your' local shop does it for free. If they charge, just order a ProCal.
Q: On the road, what PSI should I be running in my tires?
A: For optimal comfort and even tire wear. you should not run the recommended PSI listed on the sidewalls of your tires. Typically this will be way too much. On average for a 33" tire, I would recommend that you run your tires at approximately 28-30 PSI. For a 35" tire, I would recommend running approximately 26-28 PSI. For a 37" tire, I would recommend approximately 24-26 PSI.
