Default Tire Upgrade

Yes, I have searched and haven't found what I'm looking for. The stock Rubi BFG tires are a load range C. I'd like to add a little rubber now that I've lifted it and go to 33" tires (285 70 17) but the KM II's are load range D and will obviously have stiffer sidewalls. My JK is also my daily driver and I don't want to get beat to death.

I've read several threads from Sahara and X owners that went from stock B range tires to D range and hated it. I'm looking for feedback from Rubi owners that have made this upgrade and are running D range tires after running the stock C's. How noticeable is the difference on the road?

A lot has to do with proper adjustment of the tire pressures...as the new higher load capacity tires can hold more weight, but have different psi to weight ratios.

Too much pressure will make the ride rough, too little will wear the outside tire edges and make the handling sloppy, etc.

The nice thng about a taller sidewall IS the softer ride,as the compliance of the sidewall absorbs road irregularities, etc.

You can ask most shops to do a test mount, and try them out for a quick lap at least to see the difference, and help decide. Also - I find the higher load range tires last more miles as they are compounded for a heavier load capacity.

I thought the Rubi came with load range E I have to buy 8-12 E range tires a year for my plumbing vans and know the price difference and huge ride quality difference between them and C or D range. I am a pavement pounder with my JK and wouldnot want E rated tires on it.

MRSIG, are you running spacers behind the stock wheels? Judging from the pics I'd guess no. Any scrubbing or rubbing problems?

Stock Rubi tires are the last ones listed, LT255/75R17/C KM-DT (DT= different tread pattern). These tires are unique to the Jeep Rubicon.

IMO the only way you could tell the difference between load range C and D is to compare the same make tire on the same vehicle side by side test with mounting 1 JK with load range C and 1 JK having load range D and driving one and then driving the other. The only way anyone can say its not as good a ride is if they upgraded to load range D from C using the same tire and why would someone do that? Usually upgrade to larger tires which are going to feel totally different anyway. All tires are different and all tires drive and fell different. I choose Dick Cepek F/C II 305/75R16 and love them
