Too Fourty or Not to Fourty... That is the real question
I would be more concerned about making expensive things pop. I dont think the 44s will hold up long to 40s. Dont get me wrong they are strong axles but they can only take so much. Anytime you are offroad driving up any type of hill you are going to have to run it in 4 low. The cool factor is definitly there but I think you would at the least need to re gear and have a box of spare parts handy. If it does work and you dont break more than you would with 37s please let me know. My buddy ran a set of 39s on his 44 and it lasted 2 hours wheeling. Nothing he wouldnt have done with his 37s.
Sounds like a classic case of 'Big Tire' envy!
Either pull the trigger and be prepared to empty you wallet for everything else you are going to need to go with them, or start parking next to stock Jeeps so their owners can be envious of your 'Big Tires'.

Here, does this help?
I'm still getting good HP (Stock Engine), 15 MPG w/ Super chips on 87 oct, 5.38 though... I make it up to Eisenhower Tunnel (Colorado, elevation of 11,013 feet ) just fine. We had to do some cutting and bump stops in order for them to fit well. I enjoy the 40's.
