My 2013 Sahara Unlimited with 3.21 is 2000lbs, same vehicle with 3.73 or better would max out at 3500 according to my manual. I guess the 2008 is different as mentioned.

The added horsepower made the difference. Not at first, though. The 3.6L JK owner's manuals up through the early 2013s still listed it as 4dr with 3.21 gears limited to 1,000 pounds.
The later revision to the 2013 brought it up to 2,000 pounds.
I suspect the lower rating of the early 3.6L JKs was a failure to properly edit the owner's manual.

OK. Seeing as how we are telling our secrets, I will admit I had no problem with this:

From the 2012 manual. I don't think I have ever owned a vehicle with various towing capacities. At least not this many....

until you get in an accident and a dip shit attorney holds the person responsible for knowingly overloading a trailer. Unfortunately, being a prosthetist in practice, I had quite a few patients, who lost limbs in accidents. They all won their cases due to negligence on the trailer owner's part. Yeah, the vehicle might be able to do it, but most people don't have experience pulling heavy trailers. Personally, I don't do it, even having the experience. Between the potential for vehicle damage, liability and well being of others, just not for me to push the limit.
