Default Tow Hook Help

Okay I have read everywhere about the tow hooks and all I can find is the Mopar ones and that is not what I am looking for.

I took the plastic cover off of my stock bumper (that had no tow hooks) and removed the "cans":

I ordered this stinger:

http://www.quadratec.com/products/12006_96X_PG.htm

which mounts where the Mopar tow hooks go (as far as I know ~ I am known to be wrong)

So.. I need some tow hooks.. and was thinking about getting these:

My question is...

Can I just bolt these to the top of the stock bumper? Is there any special place to do it? Would it be better to bolt them underneath? Are these things going to be strong enough just bolted to the bumper? Is there somewhere on the frame where I can bolt them that would be stronger?

So if this isn't going to work.. does anyone have any suggestions that is not going to cost me much of anything. I am just about as broke as one can be, but it's okay because I spent it all on my Jeep!

Thanks to everyone who helps me with all of my questions here. This forum is the most awesome place in the world

You're going to want them bolted to the frame, not just the stock bumper. That is why the stockers bolt up the way they do. The one's you're looking at are more the TJ style that bolt to the frame through the top side. Without looking, not sure if those could be made to work. Maybe you can find some D-rings that could be incorporated w/ the stinger setup.

Bolting tow hooks to the stock bumper is not going to be strong enough, they need to be bolted to the frame.

I just replaced mine last week and if I remember right, they were attached to the same mounting bolts that held the front bumper on the frame.

check out this thread

The pictures are on page 3 and 7 of this thread, but he explains what he did.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies. I guess I am just going to have to save up the money to do it right. I was just hoping for a cheaper way. I guess I will get the D-ring brackets. Not entirely sure how they hook to the frame, but they guy I ordered the stinger from said I could get them for $109.00, so I would assume they would work with the stinger.

Hope I don't get stuck for awhile

I asked him where he got that one. I am pretty sure I ordered the right one. I might just call them on Monday and make sure. Now you have me all paranoid

That's where I got the idea.

I actually like the stock bumper under the plastic cover. I wanted a stinger and I will eventually rig up some fog lights, but my only problem is the tow hooks. Once I get it all together and painted I think it will look really good.
