Default Towing Question

I have a 15 JK 2 DR.
I do not have a trailer hitch mounted but looking for one that will allow me to tow 3k pounds.

I need to pick up a Ford GPW about 90 miles away. I was planning on renting a trailer from Uhaul.

The trailer weighs about 1700 lbs.
The GPW weight will be around 15-1700 lbs.

Is this safe to do on a 2 door?
Can someone lead me into the right direction if so, and what trailer hitchers I might be able to get?

Also I have upgraded suspension all around with Bilstein shocks and a skyjacker lift kit.

Thanks, Jordan

I like curt hitches myself. Just go slow and you should be fine.

3000# is over the GVWR for a 2 door. I think the max is 2k. A 4dr with a tow package is only rated at 3500# with a 300# tongue weight.

That weight seems really dicey to me. Have you double checked that uhaul will even allow you to pull their trailer with a 2dr?

While it may technically be "doable" I wouldn't try it.

No longer true sir. This picture is directly from the 2015 sales brochure, note the weight limit if equipped with the tow package (likely a harness and hitch as years before).

Is it a great idea? Probably not. Will it work? Sure. I've pulled that kind of weight with an older JK and I live to talk about it.

Uhaul will let you tow a trailer as long as you have a hard top on....
