Default Tpms?

I'm about to order new rims and tires for the jeep. I've read a lot about the tpms system and how it works. Was wondering if I decided not to put the sensors in the new rims, what would happen. I heard about a light and chime. Is this constant, will it affect driving conditions? I can always put the old rims and tires on for service if necessary.

dont know the thoughts behind not putting them in the new tires, but you just get a light and chime....some dont even chime.
You can get used to it.

i mounted new wheels and tires about a month ago and the chime rings when i first start the jeep and stops after three or four chimes. the light comes on and flashes for about 30 seconds and then stays on. funny thing was that the light and chimes didn't start for about a week after the new wheels were put on. there is no adverse affect. i had intentions of putting the sensors in the new wheels, but my tire guy had them mounted and ready when i got there.

Well if you have an 07 you likely don’t have TPMS 08 and up the JK checks only the 4 on the ground every time you start the Jeep it will chime one time for every low tire or sensor not found also the (!) light will stay on when the (!) light is on you will not be able to dim the odometer for some reason they think that will help keep your attention and one more thing you will also get a mystery ding every so often. Options would be install sensors or get an AEV Procal / Superchips Flash pack will allow you set the pressures to “0” that will basically turn off the TPMS. If you reinstall your stock wheels for service and don’t change anything after driving I found @ 55Mph for a short time the TPMS will recognize the sensors and reset.
Kind of up to your personal preferences on how you do it. Everybody will have their own opinion so good luck

I thought I read/heard the TPMS were going to be required for passing state inspections. Am I mis-remembering, as they say?

Varies state by state.

Why don't you want to use them? Because they are prone to breaking in the rocks? If you don't want to disable (like with a Procal), you can have them banded inside the wheel. Works great and they can't get damaged.

I mounted all of my new tires with out the sensors. I have started it a few times, moved around a little, but I have not drove it yet. The lights have not come on yet, but I do have a Flashpaq to install also.

I just replaced my stock Rubi wheels and tires with MB Predator wheels and Kumho M/T tires. I had the sensors placed in the new wheels and the first time I started the Jeep, the light came on and chimed a few times. I began driving home and the light went off. Since then, I have not seen the light nor heard a chime. That was about 900 miles ago.

Thanks for the input. I just really dont see the sense in havin them. Have to spend extra money to get new ones, then installed. I have the superchip programmer and understand you can set the setting down to run lower pressure in the tires. I just dont want to have new ones placed then end up with the light on because it needs to be reflashed to read the new sensors. Have heard of this problem. Im gonna keep the old rims and tires so can swap back at any time. Who knows I might put new sensors in anyway.
