Thanks guys,

I thought it was weird. He also keeps trying to steer me to BFG AT's instead of KM2's or Toyo's.

He said I should just put a MT on the rear for looks and run AT's.

I think he drives a Ford truck or something. He just doesn't understand.

When I got my new wheels the tire shop just swapped them out and just charged for mounting and balancing; nothing extra.

However the stems on those factory TPMS sensors are metal and I recently sheared one off at the base of the valve cap threads. I think I'm going to have the tires dismounted and have the sensors banded to the wheels so that I can run standard rubber valve stems. I did it once and it could happen again. When it happened I didn't loose any air but I can't air up or down without removing the valve stem with the little T tool. I've moved the tire to the spare position and will make the change when I get a bit of free time. The only other alternative would be to buy a new TPMS for that wheel/tire.

Find a new tire shop! One of the ways they make money is up-selling which isn't entirely bad until they upsell you crap you don't want or need.

Napa also has a TPMS tool for sale to their shops. My 4x4 shop just took the old ones off the factory rims and mounted them in the new rims.
Also jkkat on this forum (if memory serves) did the banding option and went to regular stems. There was a thread with pics... if its still here.

It is right here. https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...t=tpms+banding
After reading the thread it sounds like if a tire shop doesn't know the sensors are mounted this way it could be a pain. But the folks at Discount Tire say they do it all the time and have no problems. jkkat said they sheared three valve stems. I'll stop it at one and fix the problem for good.

I just got off the phone with 4 Wheel Parts here in Tucson and they quoted me at $160.00 to mount and balance a new set of tires. When I asked why it was costing so much, they said it was because of the TPMS and that they have to take extra care in changing them out. They said that if they broke one, that a replacement would cost over $100.00. Amazing what people try to get away with.

These are very inexpensive kits and comprise a rubber gasket, valve core, stem cap and stem nut. They are just over $3 at any NAPA store, part # 92-0210.

If you are just transfereing the sensors over, you will not need to "reset" the sensors and nothing else is required but this little kit and it takes 2 seconds. There is no need to track what corner each sensor is located.

Simply call B.S. on them if they say it will cost more than $20 to do the 5 TPMS.
One of our JK' s stem broke right off when I unscrewed the cap. Will the part replace the broken stem w/ o dismounting the tire?
Thanks
