Do a search on this forum about auto vs. manual. I think there is even a poll somewhere. Personally I like the auto, but that's just me. Good luck

I think that the general consensus is: Power, less problems with shift points, and mileage advantage > 6 speed.
Better for off-road advantage > Auto.

LESS GREAT .... TASTES FILLING !!

Originally ordered a 6 - had knee problems - changed to an auto - had surgery - success! - tried to change back to a 6 speed - major delays so stuck with the auto.

No problems with it so far but although my personal preference would have been stick (everyone over 15 here does drive a stick anyway because of another vehicle) - I can actually say that the auto can still be a lot of fun and when stuck in traffic - even with a good knee - I can now steer with one knee - drink my coffee and talk on the phone at the same time - definitely easier than with a stick!

Good luck with the decision - it is a personal one and I doubt you'll regret it if you are comfortable with both.

Definitely MANY other posts along this line ...

I originally wanted a 6 speed, but I'm content with an auto.

I previously swore by manuals. Tried the auto and was quite content with it. Enjoying it both on the trail and on the road. It has plenty of power with stock tires. I'm sure others here running 33s, 35s or 37s can provide their experiences.

One thing to consider is that the sticker seems to indicate that they charge more for the auto. That said, I'm content with my auto.

Default 6 Speed

In Australia the Rubicon is unaffected by retaining the Dana 44 rear diff with manual or auto but if you buy the Sport (X?) the Auto gets a 35 rear. Dont know if the same applies in USA, but I originally was thinking of Auto to make it easier for my son and GF to drive it off road, now they will just have to learn how to drive properly to cope with the manual, as I want the 2.8 CRD diesel available here, and will fit ARB lockers. With the 410Nm of torque the standard diesel puts out I reckon a 35 Dana is not the way to go.

One thing I'd like to see is a hand throttle for the JK. As we've gone to drive-by-wire this is currently not an option. Once we have that available, I think we can get very close to the automatic in terms of off-road capability. Right now, I just need a 3rd foot!
