Default Trektop NX header gap question

Guys - does this gap look correct? It is much larger than gap with the hard top on. Just doesn't look correct. Haven't water checked it for leaks yet, but plan to tonight.

It's a little hard to tell in the pics, but the factory soft top definitely has a bit more of a gap than the hard top, so I'd expect the Treck Top to be the same.

Mine looks the same, so does my neighbor, who had his for 4 years. Does not leak.

I've wondered why the soft tops fit a bit different than the hard tops around the header. Is there some functional reason they are that way? I've also wondered why they don't have something that utilizes the center footman loop. Only thing I can think of is the freedom panels on the hard top are obviously split down the middle and require attachment there, but seems like a soft top would get a little added benefit as well.
