TREKTOP Question
I am thinking about geordering a TREKTOP today for my Unlimited JK. I want to be able to fold it Completely Down like a regular soft top when I want to. Is this practical and is it desugned to do that? I understand about the folding top portion.
It is my understanding if you take it all the way down, you will have to store it inside your Jeep as the only 'hard' attachment point is the header and in that situation it would be disconnected, so it will have to go inside or be lashed somehow. This is due to it's 'frameless' design.
Hopefully an owner will chine in...
No. There is no frame to fold down. It is essentially a throw-over cover that straps down and looks great. You can wear it complete, roll back the front (sort of like the Sundowner) or take it completely off. You can take off the rear curtain and roll the top back for flow-through but the side windows are fixed. It takes me about 5 minutes to take off, roll up and stash in the back or unroll and install. It's a super top but not a cheap way to get factory framework and foldability. If that's what you want, you need a factory top new or used.
Do a search on the TrekTop here and look at BestTops web site so you know exactly what the top is. I think it's great but if you're looking for factory top structure and folding this is not the top for you.

I wonder if you had a duster, would it hold the Trektop like it does the factory one,,,,,newbie here, just asking?
It's not a duster I meant, but actually the cover that keeps your soft top in it's place when it is peeled back!
Sorry.

Had my trek top for a month now had high hopes it. I love the way it looks when it is on but I am not impressed with taking it off. I have seen pictures where the window has quick clips to roll it up and clip it, Mine does not have clips, am I missing them?? Personally I have a set up to remove hardtop by myself and I can do it quicker then I can remove the trektop and the window. Not worth what paid for I do not believe.
You can roll up the Trektop and lay it across, behind the rear seat. I use 2 or 3 bungees to lash it to the lower rear of the sport bars (roll bar).
I'll take some photos some day and post them with instructions. I do have one annotated photo, which I'll put at the end of this post.
Until then, here's my procedure...
1) Unfasten the cross strap (inside the Jeep).
2) Store the little plastic clip somewhere safe, it's small and will get misplaced. I drop it on the coin tray in the center console storage.
3) Unfasten the two knobs/screws that clamp down the header. Store these with their V brackets in the console or glovebox.
4) Pull the velcro loose where it wraps around the upper bars of the door surrounds (two places, on both sides)
5) Pull the velcro strips loose that secure the top to the back of the door surrounds.
6) Fold the strap and buckle onto the roof of the top.
7) Carefully roll up the top towards the rear, stopping about 3" from the quarter window line.
8) Pull the top retainer strips from the side rails, completely.
9) Unzip both sides of the rear window and slide it out of the top groove and the tailgate bar. Leave the tailgate bar where it is.
10) Carefully roll up the rear window. You can stow it behind the seat. Just be careful how you stow it to avoid scratching the clear plastic.
11) Flip the side panels with the quarter windows, over the top. Make sure they are even. Do not fold across the windows, but along the seam above them.
12) Remove the rear bow (1/2" black painted aluminum pipe).
13) Carefully roll the top back until it's about to fall into the Jeep. There should be about 18" of the side panels hanging. Do not roll the top up tight. a little loose is preferred.
14) Lower the rolled top down so that the ends rest on the inner fender wells, just behind the sport bar. Make sure it's centered relative to the Jeep.
15) Tuck the 18" of the side panels in underneath. Close the tailgate.
16) Slide the bow into the rolled up top (this is one reason you don't roll it tight) until it is completely inside and centered.
17) Loop a 12" bungee cord around the sport bar. Don't wrap it around the shoulder belt. Lift up the top and stretch the bungee around the rolled top and hook the bungee ends together. Repeat for the other side.
You are now ready to roll. The top is secured.

bringing this old thread back up. I want to mostly be topless, completely, in the summer. I want to be able to be able to carry it around with me, and if need be, pull over in a parking lot and put it up if i get caught in the rain. Likewise, i also want to be able to pull over and take it down if the mood strikes. Is this possible with the trektop? I've realized the new trektop isnt possible to do that. After all the research, I'm starting to wonder if this is even feaseable to do or not...
I don't for sure know that it cant. But from what I understand, it has some framework up front. So all you can do is remove the back and side windows, then lay back the top. Still leaving some parts covered. I'm starting to think just buying a factory soft top is my only option.
